School trustee (SD 68)

Tanner is virulently against SOGI (sexual orientation and gender identity) education, a common far-right trope based in trans- and homophobia. It says that trans people, people who support trans rights, and people who participate and support the art of drag are actually p*edophiles gr**ming children.

On October 13, 2022, Tanner brought extremely graphic images of gender reassignment surgeries in process to a school trustee debate on Gabriola Island. He was quickly removed from the ballot and suspended from his job as a youth support workers. According to a GiveSendGo account set up by the local far right, he was later fired (because, you know, proving you can’t support youth is a pretty big problem–LGBTQ2S+ youth are more likely to be kicked out or otherwise end up unhoused or in vulnerable situations).

Tanner was supported by North Cowichan school trustee candidate and Freedumb movement regular Serena “Freedombear” Winterburn.
